So my homie Newkon and I were commisioned to paint the Hatsby store in Pearlridge shopping center again. We painted the first spot but they've recently expanded and need more blank canvas space to be painted. The picture you see below is not the full mural we completed on the rear wall. I painted this woman while Newkon painted the background and a cute little bird. LOL. We suffered through two painful days of fumes, late night starts because of the malls holiday hours which lead us to ending at the break of dawn. Newkon was on vacation so he had nothing to worry about. I basically went home at 5:30am, took a shower and headed straight to work to sleep in the parking lot at my job because i started work at 8:00am. I was covered from head to toe and was wearing a respirator but had one of the worst paint induced highs of my life. I went home wanting to vomit during the car ride, i was cold and my body couldn't stop shaking. Mento. Anyway we thought up a different method of completing the project with our health in mind and opted to install canvases and hand paint the rest of the areas. Well as I showed up on time to finish up on Newkons last day in Hawaii he was no where to be found. That fool bailed on me and did not answer my phone calls or texts. I contact him later and he's like, "sorry, i fell asleep, but i did get laid three times for you." WTF?!?! If we weren't such good friends I'd be pissed! Glad you frikken got some and i hope you're lonely in LA. Haha! Anyway, I'm almost done and keeping his share of the final payment. LOL. If you get a chance go check out some of the work we've done in there. If you like it, hire us!

So I was just at the Bike Shop today on king st. picking up my Team Tradewinds race kit, nutrition and tubes for the race this Sunday. Had a good chat with TWCT President Atomman about race nutrition strategy. While i stood behind him at the register he turns around and says, "look at this." Little did i know, my 112 mile road journey came to a halt... The email read,

"Dear cyclists,

We regret to inform you that the 2010 Dick Evans Memorial Road Race scheduled for September 5th is canceled for reasons beyond our control.

We are making efforts to reschedule the event but do not know yet if we will be successful in our attempt. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause especially for those traveling to Oahu to participate in this event.

Refunds will be available. For those who wish to wait to see if a rescheduling is possible, you may request a refund at a later date. For those who need an immediate refund, please email us at boca@bocahawaii.com and confirm your mailing address.

The sales clerk then turned to me and asked, "you still want this stuff?" I thought that was funny. Well, I got a lot of good training, met a lot of good people through the process. I ended the day with Grant on a good 40 mile ride to Waimanalo and back to triangle park. Oh well, was really hoping to accomplish and add the DEMRR to my race roster. But there's always the Waikiki Roughtwater on Monday. Unless that gets cancelled too...LOL.

I even prepared by breaking in my new Sidi Genius 5 shoes by wearing them around the office. Ha!I accomplished one thing today, looking like Will Ferrel in Elf. Anyway, here's a picture of the team kit i picked up,
I will now be hosting a power gel party called "Power Gel Palooza!" Your all invited! there's plenty to go around!

What's next? Well, it's about that time to start training for NAGA in October. Jiu Jitsu animo Fire It UP!

112 mile road... nearing the goal...

Averaged a little over a 100 miles last week. The week started off easy, then on Wednesday i decided to go to Kaena Pt. from Mililani and back. I was flying on my way there. The ride ended up being a race against the sun as I was nearing dusk. I decided to turn around at the end of Dillingham air field or at 20miles. As i got back to Waialua i realized, "shit, i might not make it before the sun goes down." So in a spur of the moment idiot decision I went up the windy road instead of Kam. Yikes. I overlooked the rumble strips on the side. There is literally no room for bikes on the side. And it was steeper! But i had to keep chugging up and boy was it a relief to get back before sundown.

On Saturday i got to ride with the Tradewinds Cycling Team again. I tried my best to saty with the front group. Brought my GoPro camera with me and after watching the footage, i realized how uncomfortable i am drafting closely. Well, it was probably due to me not being able to keep up. We started in Kailua, went to down to the hygenic store, followed the Dick Evans Route through Olomana to Hawaii Kai and ended back in Kailua. Tradewinds are an awesome supportive bunch and I'm always learning different tips and techniques. We ended the ride with some coffee at Starbucks. There is a possibility that i may wear a blue kit come Sunday @ DEMRR...

Well my legs felt great and i'm looking forward to this final week of tapered training. In the mean time enjoy this crappy low quality video of Saturdays ride. I'll update my Vimeo account and try and get a better video out. Sheez, for nothing i film in HD.

My focus for the next few days leading up to the race is diet, managing weight, nutrition during the race, what race wheels to use, ZIPP 404's or my EA90 Aeros, keeping my fitness through the taper and how the hell am i getting to the start line?

This past week i put in around 140 miles of training. With my longest ride being 77 miles. Saturday i rode with the Atomann Kimm and the tradewinds cycling team. We started at Hawaii Kai, went to malaekahana and i turned off at kualoa to work the mountain man. Man, those dudes are fast. I tried to see if i could keep up with the fast group, got dropped, worked my way back then finally hit a pot hole and flatted both tires. Luckily i reformed a small chase group with two other riders that rode a very nice tempo as we worked together. After work i caught a ride up to pali then rode back to Hawaii Kai.

On Sunday i rode with Aloha Fixed's Grant and Kyle. We started at Coffee Talk and made our way all the way to the top of Kamehame ridge. Ho shet! That was brutal. Kyle did it on a 47x17 fixed gear! The view was worth it but Kyle was truly a champ going up and coming down. It pretty much ended up being a $20 ride for him because he totally trashed one tire.

My legs hated me after that weekend. I got to rest up later on Sunday and spend a nice day at the beach with my other half. This week will be my last week to put in quality mileage before i taper off for the race.

Been increasing the mileage last week. Met some cyclist who live and train near me. We did some paceline training taking turns at some pretty hard efforts in the front. Man, i was exhausted. Got to do some interval work and finished the week with a 61 mile ride from Ewa, to Makapu'u and back to town. Christian came along and met me in Aiea. The dude finished with me and did it all on his fixed gear running 48x17. Pretty Nuts. Makapu'u was super nice. Got to breath in and experience a "Lucky I Live Hawaii" moment. Total mileage last week was a little over a 100 miles. I want to circle the island this week. With Friday being a holiday, it may be possible. Stay tuned...

The Dick Evans Memorial Road Race is about a month away. I haven't put in my registration yet but i've been putting in the mileage in hopes to complete my first 112 mile road cycling race. This is one of the big Hawaiian races that i've never finished besides the Kona Ironman. In fact, this is one of the races that lead to the creation of the original Ironman. So far training has been good. It won't lead me to a high finish but i'm just looking to complete the race and experience what it's like racing in a peleton of 200 riders. Look for updates soon. Ride or Die!

So here it is... Finally finished... This is the wall at the Contemporary Museum in Honolulu. Soo stoked that i finally completed it. This thing tested me mentally and physically. Originally planned to finish over a weekend, but due to unforseen circumstances it took me over a course of multiple weekends to complete. LOL. It was hot, muggy and sometimes uncomfortable once the sun came out on the tennis courts @ TCM. Some how i told myself, "f**k it, you need to get this done", and i did. The title of this peice is "The battle of the birds and the bees." I've enjoyed the whole process from spending countless hours at the museum, getting to know the resident artists and staff, having random going crazy sessions with Eukarezt and meeting all types of people that rolled through. Thank you to all who came and supported me throughout the whole thing. Without you, I would of been talking to my painting. For those of you who haven't seen it in person, GO NOW!!!

Whoa?!?! I haven't posted anything in a while. Anyway, i'll be doing my first solo Art Show @ Manifest in July! I'll keep you updated as I get everything rolling. So stoked!

As far as music goes we had a blast performing at the Mayjah Rayjah @ the Waikiki Shell this past Saturday. The set was short but the experience will last. Hopefully we can shoot for a better and later slot next time. Being that it was my first time performing at the shell I was stoked. Big changes with the band will come in May. Isaac is leaving the islands in May for work. Yikes, he will be hard to try and replace but I know we will move forward and continue to spread the All Natro love...

Um... the museum? Almost finished with this project. Mang, it's been a real struggle with time management with all the things I do. the ideal slot for this project is mornings till about noon. After noon it gets really hot a hard to paint and concentrate. But i'm almost there and can go back to sleeping in after a late night gig or whatever...

Thank you to family and friends for such a beautiful day in the ocean. This took place on March 8, 2010; my Grandma Hazel Kawai'ai'a Stephenson's birthday. She past away last July and we waited for her birthday to spread her ashes in front of her regular spot in Waikiki. She was a regular there everyday. This little stretch of beach holds fond memories for my cousins and I as we were there everyday we spent at grandmas house. Love you grams, back to the ocean which you loved...

Rising Notion - Live Art

Here's a painting i did live at the "Rising Notion" event that was suppose to go up for auction. This took place at Fresh Cafe on Saturday, February 20, 2010. This event was a fundraiser to benefit the REACH program. This program works with kids and gives them an outlet to be creative and find out what they'd like to persue in the future mentored by positive role models. I really didn't know what i was going to paint. The canvas size was a weird one, standing tall at 4' x 8'. I googled a model and went from there. It was the first live portrait for me and i was hoping it would turn out okay and not look like the grudge or a dude. It was done using all spray paint mix in with a little Coors Light. LOL. The show went well. There was sick art by Chanel Tanaka hanging! 10 different artists including myself painted a bunch of purses that went up for silent auction. Tahiti Rey killed an acoustic set. She is dope! Thanks to Ryan Chang of island fire productions for letting me be a part of this event. Don't mind the crappy iPhone pic. Hopefully a good flick of the finished product pops up some where. Flickr maybe?... I'll post more flicks when i come acroos them. haha. Shoots!

My friend and fellow artist Newkon and I created the Colored Boogers collective to create quality productions around the Hawaiian landscape. What is "colored boogers?" Well it's just that. Paint using aerosols without a mask then clean your nose and you will see. LOL. I remember hearing the term from a good friend RickWon as he dug his nose after a long day of painting. Blazing Hot Sunday Paint Session...

Good times on a hot Sunday afternoon. The owner of this wall wanted us to update a previous mural that was on this wall. Newkon and i showed up backed by a camera crew, Jt Gray and Brad Carlsen, that was shooting a time lapse of this mural. It was amazing to see all the community support for what we were creating. We got a bunch of "chee hoo's", visitors from Australia, a old timer artist, 1,000 car horns, a couple job offers, some chronics, random friends pulling over to visit (Nikki, Lance, Marc, Kea, Nalu, Rena, Nesta, Reno, Gabe, etc...), and a bunch of cars getting beeped at for holding up traffic. Glad we made it through the heat as we brought the heat. Inspired by the ying and yang balance of the Colored Booger colab crew, the samurai and dragons personify us as we sling paint, wise crack and prank each other in the process. Glad i got to paint with the homie. Probably the last time before he bounces out to L.A. to man his clothing line. Mahalo to all who came out and supported. Big ups to JT and Brad! Painted live at a cool pool party at the Waikiki Parc Hotel this past weekend. Homies from Ground Up Pirates, Euka and Dodge were also painting it up live. It started off with me and Noa shoving peices of wood into my tiny Scion. We get there and hook up our spot only to notice that our corner looked ghetto. Erica, homegirl putting it together, gave us some white drop cloths so we blend in with the sheek seating, silver apples, and laser lights slicing through bubbles dropping. There were girls dressed as flowers floating around in the pool dancing. Not to mention an octopus lady out on deck.

There was free sparkling wine (although the bottle said from france? doesn't it make it champaign?), peppermint martini's, and pupu's for all. Noa kept the artists busy by loading us with drink after drink. If the mural isn't that pleasing to the eye it was due to NBoss! LOL! Good times though. Pretty random group of models, news casters, hotel and resturant owners, and Japanese magazines. They seemed stoked on the art. Had fun till about 9:00pm then it was off to Brew Moon for a gig with All Natro.

Rolled up to the party in my Lotus. Vallet was tripping. Orange clad outfit to match my whip.

So Keep A Breast held their annual party at Haleiwa Joes this year. I got to get down with some of Hawai'i's most talented artists from Pocket Full Of Monsters and Ground Up Pirates. The party was sick with local reggae band Sheriff Brown rocking a live set during the paint out. Each artist also did a plaster boobie mold of pro skaters, surfers, and snowboarders. I had pro skater Vanessa Torres...pics later. The boobies were auctioned off i belive in the Wyland gallery Haleiwa the following saturday. Super good fun! Stoked how it turned out!

The top team strikes again!!! Just finished this with my homie Newkon. This mural was for a new tattoo themed clothing store thats opening in the PearlRidge Shopping Mall called Hatsby. Store opens on December 5, 2008. Homie has some sick shirt print outs! This one is a must see in person to appreciate the detail. The flicks doesn't do it justice because the flash burns out all the little nic-naks. This is the second or maybe third mural we painted in Pearlridge if you count the outside baracade of Urban Flava.

Hawaii based clothing brand B-Ware, along with The Keep A Breast Foundation (KAB), ROXY and Emergen-C, join forces to present Keep A Breast Hawaii (aka The “I Love Boobies” Party), an art and music festival that will feature a diverse group of top Hawaiian artists and music acts.

Keep A Breast Hawaii will take place on Wednesday November 26th at Waimea Falls Park, a premiere venue on Oahu’s North Shore. The goal of this event is to raise consciousness and awareness for breast cancer, while benefiting The Keep A Breast Foundation and The Rell Sunn Education Fund. Keep A Breast Hawaii is set to be THE event on the North Shore this winter by bringing together a unique mix of artists, musicians, surfin’ super stars and legends. It is also presented with support from SMART Magazine, Contrast Magazine, Aloha Army and DORK.

Keep A Breast Hawaii will feature customized plaster breast casts from more than 15 top Hawaii artists, including Angry Woebots, Heather Brown, Clark Takashima, CKaweekS, Pancho Abalos and many more. These casts will be on display and auctioned off at the event. Many of the casts to be displayed are of professional surfers, skaters and snowboarders, such as Rochelle Ballard, Megan Abubo, Chanelle Sladics, Kassia Meador, Shea Hodges and Vanessa Torres to name a few.

Subtext has teamed up with Zakkamono, to bring you an incredible custom vinyl show just in time for the holidays. The format will be the new Miao (Lucky Cat & Mousubi), and we have curated 50 artists from around the globe to do custom versions of this great toy! Yes 50. Miao is the first collectible designer vinyl figure designed by Zakka. It is an updated design of the Japanese Maneki Neko/Lucky Cat (an iconic Japanese figure that brings good luck and good fortune). Miao measures 7-inches tall and comes with his BFF Mousubi, a 3-inch character designed with the elements of a musubi/onigiri (Japanese rice ball wrapped with Nori/seaweed) and a mouse. We are slowly receiving the customized Miao’s, and this is shaping up to be an insane show. The one pictured above is from our good friend Sandra Equihua, and it is amazing! Pretty stoked to have been a part of designing my very own Poketo wallet. Werd. The Poketo x Prototype show was dope. Thanks to all the heads who came out and supported Newkon, Shaun and I. Daggers, Bolts, & Fur will be featuring art from Angry Woebots, 2H, and Phoneticontrol of the Pocket Full Of Monsters art collective. They will be unveiling new art pieces for their Honolulu art show at Exclusive. Hailing from Kane'ohe(Angry Woebots), Seattle(2H) and San Francisco (Phoneticontrol) these Pocket Full Of Monsters members will be unleashing their creativity for all of Hawaii to enjoy showing off their various styles. Angry Woebots and 2H will also be doing live painting at the show. The art installation will be on display through June 1, 2008.

Angry Woebots: Aaron Martin was born on the island Oahu, Hawaii. Most of his childhood was spent growing up in California and Nevada and returned to Oahu during his senior year in High school. In 1999 a car accident changed everything. His life threatening experience inspired him to leave the island once again and moved to Seattle. Inspired by the rain and being indoors he found himself dabbling in art again. After a year he returned to Hawaii with a new perspective in life, did his first art show in 2002 and hasn't stop since. He has shown in galleries up and down California, the east coast, Hawaii, and China. He also sews costumes, stuffed animals, sculpts, and dabbles in graphic design.

"Angry Woebots was never a name it was a concept of what I created, from my accident until now taking something from my dark space and flipping it
into something positive, my life experience's gained me momentum into following something strange and that is not what's in front of me but what was standing next to me, life it's self. The stress, love and lost it's all a party to enjoy, through hardship comes its rewards." That's what's in the name.

2H: Using the name of his brother's graffiti crew back in high school, the Seattle based artist 2H decided to keep the name alive and now uses it as
his alias.

His characters expresss emotions he's had to deal with living in

Phoneticontrol: Phoneticontrol (born Eric John William Broers in 1975) is a San Francisco based artist curator, muralist and clothing designer. With a strong sense of reuse and recycling themes throughout his work, his creations are often composed on found objects or other items brought home after a victorious trip to the local Salvation Army. Working intuitively and almost organically, he packs in cords, fins, and add tons of sci-fi doo-dads wherever they fit, almost as if the subject matter itself is born of salvaged parts. Phoneticontrol's artwork has been shown the world over, with most notable exhibitions in the US, the UK, Australia, China, Italy, the Philippines, and France. Aside from showing his own work worldwide, he has been collaborating on projects with other like minded artists and clients.

I think they said it was the first time they were letting artists rock live in the academy. Glad to have been a part of that. So we finally pulled it together at the John D. Kaupiko Regatta @ keehi lagoon this past sunday. From getting DQ's all season to finally beating out lanikai and kailua to take the win in the Novice B Mens 1/2 mile sprint in 3:53.68. The start was trippy though. We had a cracked hull and almost missed the start due to some miscommunication. Raced it anyway, water in our canoe and all. Oahu Champs next, Hui Lanakila! Results,

two of the longest days ever. overall it was a fun contest. kind of disappointing performance for me. our heats were stacked. we begun the day with 48 people in 8 heats in the 18-29 division. got past the pre-lims in 2nd, then 2nd again in the quarters, and thought i had a slight chance of making the cut cuz i landed a front flip and kept riding although i just missed the cut in 4th. bummers, but it was fun. burnt to a crisp and ready to knock out!

I'm really hoping we get a crew together to do the Moloka'i Hoe this year. I've always wanted to get across that channel some how. Brother Lofa's slippah show was a success. Artist such as Newkon, Koak, Angry Woebots, David Choe, The London Police, Katch, Shin Tanaka, Bies, Pancho, and others united for a good cause hooking up them flip flops and raised money for the Limu Project in Ewa Beach. I gotta have da limu in my poke liddat. Overall the show raised over a thousand dollars and also turned heads, getting exposure in the Star Bulletin and KITV 4 news. Good stuff.
